Get to Know Eco-Enzyme, One Step Closer to Save the Earth

American Corner (Amcor) Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Walisongo held Organic Waste Upcycling Training at Amcor Building Campus 3, Wednesday (11/04/2023).

This event presented Head of We Green Walisongo, Ling Rusmadi as a speaker.

Program Coordinator Amcor UIN Walisongo, Eka Kharisma said that this event was aimed at commemorating Earth Day.

"This event is in commemoration of Earth Day on April 20. We should protect the earth, which is where we all live," said Eka.

Rusmadi explained the reasons for the importance of making eco enzymes.

"Waste management must be integrated. Don't just focus on the downstream, but must focus on the upstream because this is the source of the waste," said Rusmadi.

He also said, eco enzyme has many benefits for humans.

"Eco enzyme can be a multi-purpose cleaner, antiseptic, improve water and air quality, and can be used as liquid organic fertilizer," he explained.

Rusmadi also explained the ingredients for making eco enzyme.

"We need containers, sugar or molasses, organic waste, and water," he continued.

There are several steps, he continued, to make eco enzyme.

"Prepare a container that has been filled with water and molasses, put in organic materials such as household waste, close tightly, store in a place that is not exposed to sunlight,"

"Open the lid of the container to get rid of gas. Eco enzyme can be harvested after three months in tropical areas," he explained.

In the end, Rusmadi explained the reason for making the eco enzyme.

"The main goal of making eco enzymes is to be able to contribute to saving the environment, not to make money. Why? So that people can process their own waste," he concluded.
