SEMARANG— American Corner Semarang successfully held a special event of Ramadhan entitled “Interactive Discussion on Ramadhan Across Culture”. The event was held at American Corner Semarang building on Friday (7/3/2025).
This event was attended by 33 audiences from UIN Walisongo Semarang with enthuasiasm. The event was organized to find out the Ramadhan cultures of American Muslims.
This event was exclusively delivered by Imas Istiani as awardee of Global UGRAD (2009-2010) and Fullbright Master’s Degree.
In this session, she explained a lot about her experience during Ramadhan in the US. There are so many differences and challenges that she faced, including the difference in fasting time between US and Indonesia. Besides that, there are several challenges such as only a few people who know Ramadhan, the lack of mosque, and always watching time for suhoor, praying, and breaking the fast.
Despite the challenges, she also explained the good experiences that she found during Ramadhan in the US. One of them is the presence of Islamic Center, a welcoming place that offers free meals and social spaces for Muslims around the world.
After finishing the material presentation, the QnA session was opened with great enthusiasm.
“If you don’t try, then don’t expect the result. The key to success is not only smart but also grit,” she said.
The activity continued with breaking the fast together, where the volunteers and participants gathered to share a meal in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
After that, the participants were divided into two groups namely America Group and Indonesia Group. In this session, each group will be assigned to gather information about it and then proceed to decorate the board accordingly.
