Amcor organizes Fostering Student Motivation in Learning English, Teacher: Students' Background Affects Their Interest in Learning English



 

Semarang- American corner (Amcor) UIN Walisongo held a seminar with the theme "Fostering Student Motivation in Learning English" with teachers and Pre-Service English teachers SE Central Java in the old library building amcor UIN Walisongo Semarang, Monday (04/2).

This seminar presented a professional speaker from English Language Fellow, Regional English Language Office (RELO), US Embassy Jakarta, Gina Karley.

This seminar received a lot of attention from professional English teachers from various institutions. The reason is, this seminar uncovered tricks so that students can love English.

The discussion was quite interesting when the question arose, "what factors outside the classroom can affect students' motives in learning English?"

"salary and economic background is one of the factors that affect students' motives in learning and Broken home or family problems," answered one of the participants.

Continuing the answer to the question, Gina Karley, said that in teaching, teachers are expected to analyze the needs of their students so that learning does not become a burden for students.

"Not forgetting to also use applications that are helpful and fun to learn English, such as quiziz, quizletand and Interactive discussion. Don’t forget to make it a habit to give appreciation either in the form of praise or some kind of food to encourage students.," she added.

With this event, both teachers and prospective teachers can have insights to provide practical lessons to students and foster students’ interest in learning, especially English. For Pre-Service teachers, it is hoped that they can have the provision to be better prepared to become teachers.
