SEMARANG – To improve student skill about writing personal statement and admission essay, American Corner (AMCOR) of State Islamic University (UIN) Walisongo Semarang held an event with the theme "Write a Compelling Personal Statement and Admission Essay" offline at the AMCOR building of UIN Walisongo Semarang, Monday (04/03/2024). This event was the second session of the previous event, “Fostering Student Motivation in Learning English”.

The event was attended by 100 participants consisting of UIN Walisongo students and AMCOR UIN Walisongo Volunteers.

This event was exclusively delivered by Gina Karlin as English Language Fellow, Regional English Language Office (RELO), US Embassy Jakarta, Indonesia.

In this session, she explained the purpose of writing personal statements and admission essays, especially for the applicants and readers. In addition, there are also considerations and components that should be included when writing personal statements and admission essays.

She explained a lot about essay approaches such as chronological structure, argument structure, and essay structure. After finishing explaining all the material, the QnA session was opened.

“How to write essay that include critical thinking and impression?” one of participants asked.

“Describe with example, be detailed, what is the impact”, Gina Karlin answered.

At the end of the event, Gina Karlin assigned the participants to practice what they had got in this session.
