To introduce university students to the USA library, the American Corner (AMCOR) of State Islamic University (UIN) Walisongo Semarang held a training seminar with the theme "Workshop Hands on Training Research Skill" offline at the AMCOR building of UIN Walisongo Semarang, Thursday (19/10/2023).
The seminar was attended by AMCOR UIN Walisongo Semarang staff, AMCOR UIN Walisongo Volunteers, and UIN Walisongo students.
This training seminar was exclusively delivered by Marcy Carrel as Regional Public Engagement Specialist (REPS) for Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Timor Leste.
At the beginning, she talked about her experiences visiting many countries in Asia, and then continued with hands-on training on the 'library USA' e-library website.
“It’s super usefull sites to learn other languages that we can freely acsess in American spaces,” she said.
She explained a lot about the usefulness of the e-library USA and what's in it, but usually access to the website is only given to visitors to American Spaces specifically. Inside e-library USA itself is divided into sections such as news and magazines, academic and research resources, English language learning, and streaming video resources.
She explained a lot about the academic research resources section that can be accessed for students and support for learning at the university and explained that there are many topics that can be accessed by them.
“If you search on Google, it's still general and the scope is still broad, but if you search for example on EBSCOhost, it can be more specific to the subject,”she continued.
She also gifted pouches to all training participants as a souvenir, and several t-shirts from the US Embassy Jakarta, Indonesia to participants who participated in demonstrating at the front. The event ended with a group photo with lots of thanks from Marcy Carrel.
