American Corner (Amcor) Muhammadiyah University Malang (UMM), Muhammadiyah University Yogyakarta (UMY), and Walisongo State Islamic University held an online and offline sharing event themed "Active Listening and "Main" Fulness: A Dual Approach to Suicide Prevention" at the Amcor Building UIN Walisongo, Tuesday ( 14/8/2023).

American Corner of UMY, Emir G. Jayaringga and Letsplay.id Founder, Arif Bawono Surya were present as speakers.

Emir said that everyone has mental health.

"Everyone has mental health and this cannot be separated from humans," he said.

Emir said, there are four diagnoses of mental health disorder.

"Firstly deviance. They tend to be different from the existing norms or social environment. Second, Dysfunction, which significantly interferes with a person's life,"

"Third, distress, namely how much confusion something causes. Fourth, danger." he explained.

In addition, Emir also explained about psychopathology.

"Psychopathology refers to the scientific study of mental disorders encompassing origins, development, symptoms, and the underlying mechanisms that contribute to their manifestation," he explained.

Emir also emphasized the important role of an active listener for someone.

"Active listening means you don't just hear, but you also follow the flow told by that person," he emphasized.

Active listening, he continued, does not focus on giving advice to the person.

"Active listening is not how we will give advice to that person, what we will say after he tells the story," he continued.

In the end, Arif suggested that when someone has a problem, they must immediately realize it and find a way to eliminate it.

"We need to know that if we have a problem, it means it's a problem and we have to find a way to let it go. Don't judge people who are having problems, but give suggestions," he said.
